Charlene Harrington Provides Expertise

Charlene Harrington, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor emerita, has been quoted in multiple articles this month about staffing levels and regulations in nursing homes amid the novel coronavirus outbreak. The media coverage has included the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, KRON4, and Forbes online magazine.

“Based on the research that I’ve done and other people have done, 75 percent of the nursing homes are understaffed and they are especially short on registered nurses. And registered nurses are crucial,” Harrington said in the KRON4 segment. “They are the ones who would be monitoring infections and doing the oversight monitoring handwashing.”
