Alumni News: Smith-Bernardin named CHCF Health Care Leadership Program Fellow

Nursing Health Policy PhD graduate (2016) Shannon Smith-Bernardin has been named a California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) Health Care Leadership Program Fellow for 2018-2020.

The California Health Care Foundation is dedicated to advancing meaningful, measurable improvements in the way the health care delivery system provides care to the people of California, particularly those with low incomes and those whose needs are not well served by the status quo. We work to ensure that people have access to the care they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford.

Thirty-two clinical leaders have been selected to participate in the California Health Care Foundation’s Health Care Leadership Program to expand their management skills and meet the challenges facing our state’s health care system, the foundation announced today.

The leadership program is a part-time fellowship that offers clinically trained health care professionals hands-on opportunities to develop the decisionmaking, strategic planning, and executive skills they need to excel as multifaceted leaders.

During the two-year program, fellows attend six multiday seminars and participate in ongoing learning activities. Graduates gain insights into the trends and challenges facing health care and leave prepared for new levels of leadership within their organizations.
